What is Virosorb?
VIROSORB is a South African developed product specially formulated specifically to absorb, digest and bio-remediate hydrocarbon spills. It is lightweight and can be easily spread or blown over a "spill area", selectively absorbing oil-based spills on land or water. It is completely harmless to human, plant, aquatic and animal life. The natural structure of VIROSORB permits a remarkably strong "wicked action" ensuring that the oil spill is restricted from spreading. Used in the correct quantities, it prevents the absorbed oil from leaching out.
Soil Rehabilitations
Oil is absorbed over the years and gradually penetrates into the soil, which has a serious impact on the environment and can find its way into our water reserves. It is therefore imperative that these oil deposits are contained, neutralised and bio-remediated, which can successfully be achieved with the Virosorb process.
For the treatment of polluted soil, Virosorb is spread over the "spill area" and tilled into the soil. The natural microbes contained within the product feed on the hydrocarbons as soon as contact is made. Most oils contain Zn compounds as an additive, which can be suppressed by the addition of lime. The surface area must be watered at regular intervals to achieve maximum bioremediation.
Controlling Oil Spills
CWRM Holdings (Pty) Ltd provides a full consulting and maintenance service in controlling oil spills in any factory and industrial environment. As a team, between CWRM and the client, a culture of oil spill control must be instilled at every facility that is exposed to industrial oils, i.e. an oil spill must either be prevented, contained or rectified immediately. VIROSORB can absorb up to 180% lubricating oil. With the correct amount of VIROSORB applied to an oil spill, the absorbed oil mixture can be disposed to a general waste site therefore alleviates the high cost of high hazard disposal sites.
